Proper usage of self defense techniques on the street!

Steve Gib

So when is it truly worth getting into a physical altercation on the streets and when is it not worth the risk of injury or self defense related violence?

Today while I was walking through a mall I was given a bad look by a group of teenagers and then I told my friend walking with me. Within moments the one teenager was trying to get me and my friend to fight the three of them and I went into self defense mode.

I will admit I had an on guard self defense technique ready and capable for full on combat and told the punks I had no problems & nothing to prove. Then the one punk that stared me down pulled out bear aerosol spray.

A very potentially lethal type of spray designed for bear defence in the wilderness. I immediately walked away and so did they I will admit I was upset after the situation but glad I de-escalated what could have been a bad situation.

Coming home off the subway I ran into the punk that pulled the can of spray on me. He was alone and looked scared and I just walked past him as if I had never seen him before and I don't care if I ever do.

Remember that you have nothing to prove on the streets and self defense techniques and fighting are tools only for real incidents where it is required.

You should keep an aware and zen calm mind and remember not to create or be a part of unecassary conflict in your daily commute to work and daily tasks.

Use proper self defense risk and reward calculations and decide when you need to pull out any self defence techniques!
